PLC quiz machine

Description
This function module transforms your PLC into an interactive quiz system – with five questions, live evaluation, feedback display and point-based final result.
The code is written in Structured Control Language (SCL) and can be integrated directly into the Siemens TIA Portal.
Ideal for playful training courses, training modules or teaching-related experiments.

Note: All modules are designed exclusively as a learning and optimization basis and are not approved for live operation. System modules, in particular, must be finally tested and commissioned by qualified personnel before productive use.

How it works
After the starting signal, the questions are activated one after the other. Each question has an adjustable answer timer that stops either when an answer button is pressed or after a certain time has elapsed.
Each answer is evaluated immediately: Correct answers increase the score and activate the “Correct” LED.

Incorrect answers turn on the “Wrong” LED.
This is followed by a feedback phase of adjustable duration before the next question begins. After the fifth question, the quiz ends automatically, and the achieved score remains visible until a reset occurs.

Technical details
Inputs for start , reset and four response buttons are processed via edge detection.
Two IEC timers control response time and feedback duration.
The state machine (FSM) runs through the phases Idle , Question Active , Feedback , and Quiz End . Variables for the number of questions, remaining time, score, and LED outputs are clearly named and commented.
The logic is HMI-capable and can also be visualized via digital outputs.

Possible applications
Ideal for interactive operator training, gamification in training environments or as a playful trade fair module.
This quiz system is also ideal for PLC programming exercises or for illustrating logic and state control in class.

compatibility
Runs on Siemens S7-1200 and S7-1500 controllers.
Compatible with TIA Portal from version V13, V16 or higher is recommended – especially when using HMI functions and PLCSIM.
The entire logic can be simulated without additional hardware.

Scope of delivery
You will receive an .scl file with complete declaration of all inputs and outputs, state transitions, timers and feedback parameters.
In the header area there are commented instructions for adjusting response and feedback times.
