Light control in the smart home

Description
This functional module enables automatic and manual light control with day/night switching, brightness dimming and lux sensor connection.
Ideal for use in building management systems, industrial halls or smart home systems.
The code is written in Structured Control Language (SCL), has a modular structure and can be run directly in the Siemens TIA Portal.

Note: All modules are designed exclusively as a learning and optimization basis and are not approved for live operation. System modules, in particular, must be finally tested and commissioned by qualified personnel before productive use.

How it works
At startup, all light outputs and the dimming value are reset to default.
Based on predefined switching times, the logic automatically detects whether the system is in day or night mode.
In manual mode, the light can be switched on or off manually.
In automatic mode , the light remains off during the day as long as the lux sensor delivers a value above the set threshold.
If the lux value drops below this, the light switches on automatically.
At night, the system reacts to motion detection and activates the light if necessary.
In automatic daytime mode, the dimming level is calculated based on the difference between the target and actual light – with a limit of 0 to 100%.
In night or manual mode, full brightness is always set when the light is switched on.

Technical details
The day/night switching is done by time comparison with adjustable limits.
Inputs for manual operation, automatic, lux sensor and movement are evaluated via simple logic modules.
The dimming level is calculated as a percentage – with protection against division by zero and safeguard against overshoot or undershoot.
The control is purely cyclical – external timers are not required.

Possible applications
Ideal for corridors, warehouses, underground car parks or modern smart home solutions.
Also suitable for training systems or demonstration projects to demonstrate the practical use of sensors, time logic and dimming functions.

compatibility
The module is compatible with Siemens S7-1200 and S7-1500 controllers.
Runs from TIA Portal V13 – recommended from version V16 for full HMI and simulation support.
All functions can be easily tested with PLCSIM – without any hardware.

Scope of delivery
Included is the .scl file with complete declaration of all inputs and outputs, switching times, threshold values and sensor inputs.
The code sections are neatly commented.
