Description
This function block controls a conveyor belt either automatically in cyclic mode or manually via a button. Integrated emergency stop logic ensures maximum safety. The clearly structured SCL code is immediately ready for use in the Siemens TIA Portal and offers reliable control while simultaneously simplifying operation.
Note: All modules are designed exclusively as a learning and optimization basis and are not approved for live operation. System modules, in particular, must be finally tested and commissioned by qualified personnel before productive use.
How it works
Safety first: If the emergency stop is activated, the conveyor belt stops immediately. All internal states are reset, and an alarm is activated.
Depending on the mode, the control then runs in two variants:

Automatic operation:
The belt starts automatically, conveys material and stops as soon as a sensor signals: Material detected .
The control system then waits for the end of processing – or until there is no more material – and briefly pushes the belt again to initiate the next cycle. -
Manual operation:
The operator controls the belt directly using the start/stop button .
Once started, the belt runs continuously until the stop button is pressed and the cycle is reset.

Edge detection for start, stop and material detection.
Depending on the mode (automatic/manual), an internal marker is set and controlled. -

The state machine goes through three clear steps: -
